“A simple spark in May means lovin’ in June, all underneath the light of the flower moon” Durand Jones & The Indications, Aaron Frazer
The Scorpio Full Moon will be taking place on Friday, 1st May 2026 at 18:23 (UK time). This is a flower moon, which happens once a year on the first full moon of May. I really like this full moon because the Greek goddess Maia, the mother of Hermes (Mercury), had the month of May named after her. Bonus that I found out me and this goddess had the same name not too long ago.
Maia symbolises creation energy, youth and fertility. She is a patron of feeding mothers and all those who need extra support with what they are nurturing. This full moon is a continuation of the new moon in Aries, as the ruler of this full moon, Mars, is currently at home in Aries. It is also completing something that began when the new moon was in Scorpio in November 2025.
During this full moon, we are being asked to witness where the creative charge in our bodies is directed and what knots and entanglements emerge when the scorching heat of our passions has nowhere to go. How can we hold destruction with the same tenderness and care that we hold creation? Our desire to create is sacred, but so is our desire to destroy. We must know what we don’t want clearly so that we stop giving it energy.
Flower moons are a point of release but with a celebratory twist. How can you celebrate the internal leaps and bounds you have made in the last 6 months, and how all the hard parts of your life you thought would be the end of you, ultimately made your eyes sharper and more aware? This is a very earth-based full moon (HAPPY EARTH DAY!) where the bounty of the earth and the consciousness of Mother is blooming. Even through sadness and overwhelm, there’s a ripening in the body and soma for releasing an old way of being into the earth with full trust that the intelligence of the soil will produce an outcome and a shape that is perfumed with love, care and hope. Be kind to your body this full moon and mind your cravings. If you’re craving something “random”, give yourself the pleasure of receiving it. The goddess Maia oversees braided and knotted items. When you untie your shoelaces and walk barefoot, only then in the sensorium field of being, does the ancient calling of freedom make its name known to you.
